Making Kingdom Investments

“One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.” (Psalm 145:4)

I truly believe that we all want to leave a legacy; to invest in things that will last beyond our own lives., to plant seeds that will bear fruit that we may never see. Each of us have the opportunity to look beyond our immediate needs to make kingdom investments that will bless others in mighty ways.

It is the Biblical duty of every generation of Christians to see to it that the next generation hears about the mighty acts of God. Our Lord intends for the older generation to teach the newer generation to read and think and trust and obey and rejoice. Yes, God personally draws near to every new generation of believers, but He does so through the Biblical truth that they learn from the preceding generations. The Spirit comes down vertically (you might say) where the truth of God is imparted horizontally.

But there is another reason that Psalm 145:4 is so relevant to our purpose. Not only does it speak of the imparting of truth from one generation to another, it speaks of a certain kind of imparting. It is an imparting with praise (with exultation and for exultation). Notice the words above. It does not say, “One generation shall merely teach Thy works to another.” It says, “One generation shall praise Thy works to another…” Praise is exultation in God. The education of the next generation must not only aim at praising God tomorrow, it must involve praising God today.

Our God is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent; and we must remember that He made us in His image to reflect and glorify Him. What are you doing today to invest in His kingdom for tomorrow?
