The Path of Purity

The Path of Purity

How can a young person stay on the path of purity?  By living according to Your word.  10I seek You with all my heart; do not let me stray from Your commands.  11I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.”  (Psalm 119:9-11, NIV)

The above scripture asks, “How can a young person stay on the path of purity?”  But, I believe this passage is just as important to every child of God, young and old alike.  The main point or argument of Psalm 119 is that a faithful child of God should meditate on God’s word so that they might establish themselves in the Lord.

How many believers keep their lives pure, resisting the immoral influences that characterize the ungodly environment in which we live?  The other part of this passage lists ways it can be done.

We must seek God with all our heart, and hide His word in our hearts.  This means making an irreversible decision to remain loyal to God’s written Word for the rest of our lives.  We can do this by seeking the Lord in prayer, by committing His word to memory, and by looking to Him for guidance.

We must take an open stand for God’s truth by rejoicing and delighting in what God says, by considering the outcome of God’s ways as opposed to the world’s ways, and by never becoming too busy to read and study God’s Word.

According to the psalmist,“God’s word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”  (Psalm 119:105). Therefore, it can help me avoid any of the pitfalls and obstacles Satan throws in my way.
