Whiteland Church of Christ
Building on God’s Foundation / Cultivating Hearts for God
A Guiding Hand for
Your Journey
Here at Whiteland Church of Christ, our goal is to help guide the spiritual growth of one another and to reach out to the lost. We are a church that accepts and believes in the inerrancy of the Bible. We love one another and welcome the opportunity to get to know you and worship with you. In order for you to feel more at ease, we share the following with you in hopes that you will know more about us, what we believe, and what you can expect to experience when you visit with us.
Our Background
We began meeting as a family in 2003; and in December 2015, we moved into our new facility, which we pray will help reach the community. We are not a denomination. We are simply Christ’s church (Matt. 16:18), and our goal is to continue the pattern of the New Testament Church in our community. We are a Bible-centered group that believes in studying Scripture as we strive to follow the perfect example and teachings of our Lord, Jesus Christ. However, please do not expect us to be perfect (Phil. 3:12).
Although Churches of Christ are one body (2 Cor. 12:12), we have varied traditions and preferences. Some of the variations may be the times of Bible classes and Worship services, the order of service, or even the type of song books used.
Singing
At Whiteland Church of Christ, our worship service features the harmonious sounds of singing together without instrumental accompaniment. This practice reflects our belief in following the early church model and allows the focus to remain entirely on the beauty of the music and the message of the hymns.
Praying
At Whiteland Church of Christ, we believe in the importance of personal prayer, just as scripture teaches (Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16 NIV). That’s why our services feature prayers led by members of our congregation, uplifting your petitions and concerns directly to God.
Passages
We believe the Word of God is essential to our growth as Christians and we depend greatly on the guidance it gives us. Throughout our worship, you will hear passages being read from the Bible and how we can apply them to our lives today. We encourage everyone to follow along in their own Bibles. We also have extra Bibles throughout the seats in front of you.
Minister & Message
Our preacher or minister is equal to the rest of us; therefore, we do not refer to him as pastor or reverend. We believe in the priesthood of all believers (1 Pet. 2:9); therefore, you will not see him wearing robes or vestments that set him apart. The message is usually around 30 minutes in length and will reference scripture throughout. We believe you will find the message to be biblical as well as inspiring.
Invitation
At the end of the message, we extend an invitation for those who feel called to respond, whether to make a commitment to God, request prayers, or be baptized. Our minister will encourage anyone who wishes to respond to come forward, where they will be met warmly by one of our Elders as the church sings a song of encouragement. For those choosing baptism, you’ll witness the baptism by immersion during the service itself. We practice baptism by immersion (Acts 8:35-39; Rom. 6:3-4; Col. 2:12) as a symbolic act of new beginnings and the forgiveness of sin (Acts 2:38).
Communion & Offering
Every Sunday, we join together and partake of the Lord’s Supper. This memorial is done in remembrance of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 11:24-26) for the sacrifice made on our behalf. Plates containing unleavened bread will be passed. This bread symbolizes the body of Christ on the cross. Then trays filled with cups will be passed. The cups contain grape juice, symbolizing the blood of Christ that was shed for the forgiveness of our sins. Part of our communion time with the Lord is our giving back to Him as we have prospered from his blessings. Plates are passed to collect this weekly offering (1 Cor. 16:1-2). This is done in order for us to give back to God, and as an effort to further the work of the church. As our guest, you are not expected to give an offering. If you feel moved to do so, we appreciate your gift.
Bible Classes
We have classes designed for all ages which meet on Sunday mornings and then again on Wednesday evenings. These are casual studies where everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussions. We offer a staffed nursery during our worship services and Bible classes for those with babies or toddlers.
The People of the Church
As with any group of people, we are very diverse in actions and attitudes. You may find those who are overly joyful and those who are more reserved, those who easily converse and those who are a bit shy. We also come from varied backgrounds. Although we are all learning, we are at different stages in our knowledge of God’s Word and our spiritual growth. We are not united based on our thinking we are perfect, but by our recognition that we are sinners in need of Christ and His cleansing blood (Mk. 2:17; Rom. 5:6-9; Eph. 1:7; 1 Jn. 1:7). We believe that you will find people who love Jesus and whom are striving to be more like Him (1 Cor. 11:1; 1 Tim. 1:16; 1 Pet. 2:21). First and foremost, we are children of God; therefore, we are family and we seek to treat each other as such (Gal. 6:10; Eph. 3:14-15; Heb. 2:11; 1 Pet. 4:17).
Fellowship Opportunities
At different times throughout the year, we share a pitch-in meal together directly following our morning worship service. One Saturday of each month we have a Men’s Prayer Breakfast and a Women’s Brunch. Each month, we get together outside of our worship services and Bible classes, either as individual families or as a congregation, as we try to schedule some fun activities that will provide spiritual growth and encouragement for everyone, young and old alike. These activities are open for everyone. If you hear something mentioned that interests you, please let us know.
An Open Invitation
The best way to determine if the Whiteland Church of Christ is right for you is to see us in person.
This will give you the opportunity to speak with others about their experience and to ask questions.
We hope that you will accept our invitation to visit and worship with us.
If there is anything we can do to assist you, please let us know.
We are praying for you and your family.
We look forward to meeting you. God bless!
